Yes, that is Jane Lynch dressed as the shame nun from Game of Thrones. Trust us, the payoff for the joke was worth the costume.
Andy Samberg was the host of last night's Emmy Awards in LA and it got off to a weird start but not an unexpected one considering Samberg is behind such musical TV moments like 'D*ck in a Box' and 'I'm On A Boat'. Samberg kicked things off with his old school cameo-heavy musical number and managed to make all your favourite TV shows rhyme which is impressive in and of itself besides the fact that he banged them out double time.
Then in his opening monologue, Samberg tackled diversity and sexism in Hollywood while also getting a Game of Thrones reference and a Bill Cosby joke in.
Then, in a bizarre bit, he had Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany and VEEP's Tony Hale battle it out on the red carpet as they fought over the remainders left behind in the wake of all the celebs traipsing in earlier in the evening which we still don't really get before moving on to a PSA about Emmy Award safety that took inspiration from the Mad Men finale and saluting former boss and SNL head honcho Lorne Michaels with a joke that never really took off.
All in all it was a good run, but we'd still like to see someone with more bite take on the Emmys a la Tina Fey and Amy Poehler or Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes., if only to make everyone there sweat just a little bit.
