In some surprising news, Swingers and Wedding Crashers star Vince Vaughn is in negotiations for one of the major roles in the highly anticipated second season of HBO's True Detective.

According to Deadline this one is looking extremely likely as they revealed that creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto wrote the character with Vaughn in mind; said character is believed to not be one of the titular detectives, but rather more of the villain variety with "mob ties".

Pizzolatto knows Vaughn having previously written for him in a proposed film version of The Rockford Files that was put on hold when True Detective took off. Vaughn is still attached to that project but the True Detective creator has been awful busy of late, as you'd expect, so is no longer working on the project.

The other three major roles are cops, two male and one female; Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are still being heavily linked to the male parts, with Jessica Chastain the last big name to apparently circle the female cop.
