While it feels like nothing will ever capture the nation's attention quite like Love/Hate did, we have had some quality Irish drama over the years from the likes of Raw and Pure Mule to The Clinic and many more.
Now we have a new show on the way that we reckon will have the country hooked. Called Acceptable Risk, it stars Elaine Cassidy as a woman called Sarah Manning who discovers all is not as it seems when her husband Lee is murdered and finds herself going up against a powerful global organization. Filmed in Dublin and Vancouver, the six-part series also stars Angeline Ball (Redwater), Lisa Dwyer Hogg (The Fall) and Morten Suurballe (The Killing).
You may have previously seen Dublin actress Elaine Cassidy in The Others alongside Nicole Kidman, Disco Pigs with Cillian Murphy, Watermelon alongside Anna Friel and most recently, Channel 4's No Offence and BBC's The Paradise.
Acceptable Risk was written by Irish Emmy Award winner Ron Hutchinson and is set to have a similar aesthetic to Nordic noir shows like The Bridge and The Killing.
The news was announced today at RTE's autumn launch with more Irish drama promised including a second season of Amy Huberman's Striking Out as well as another outing for the Stephanie Preissner penned series Can't Cope, Won't Cope, starring Seana Kerslake.
Drama fans can also look forward to Brendan Gleeson’s critically acclaimed serial killer thriller Mr Mercedes, along with returning favourites including Vikings, Homeland and Doctor Foster.
On RTÉ2, a new season of foreign drama gives Irish viewers a first look at series two of Norwegian detective series Mammon, Danish thriller Below the Surface and the latest from Borgen creator Adam Price, Ride Upon the Storm.
