We hope they’ll be more Harrelson/McConaughey than Farrell/Vaughn.

The first season of True Detective, starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, was hailed by critics and fans as some of the best television we’ve seen in years. The second series? Eh, not so much.

Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn’s version, which also starred Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch, divided opinion to the point where it was thought there may not be another series.

When HBO did eventually confirm a third season, thoughts quickly turned as to who the leading pair may be. It was announced that Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) would star, and now we can confirm who will be alongside him.

Creator and writer Nic Pizzolato has cast British/Nigerian actress Carmen Ejogo in the co-star role alongside Ali. She’s best known for playing Seraphina Picquery in the Fantastic Beasts movies.

Ejogo will play Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980. Ali plays the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas.

We can’t say we know too much about Ejogo, or the potential chemistry between her and Ali, but we really hope they can work their magic and revive what was once an outstanding show.

No air date has been announced as of yet.
