Once more it's been proven that we all love nothing more than some Christmas cheer in the form of The Toy Show, not even Nidge can compete with this institution. 

An unbelievable 1.4 million people tuned into the show on Friday night, making it the most watched show this year to date.

It also proved popular abroad attracting close to 150,000 streams for the show, clips and extras – an increase of 30,000 streams on last year. Of this, over 62,000 streams were by internationally audiences, with 40% coming from the UK, 16% from the US and 11% from Australia. This year the most watched clips on RTÉ Player was the ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ opening number and Aimee Keogh meeting Ed Sheeran, which pretty much made the whole nation fall in love with Ed, and Aimee for that matter.

Ryan Tubridy said: “I’m delighted with the viewership figures and would like to thank everyone who tuned in to watch the Late Late Toy Show. It’s a bonkers programme and I love presenting it. But it’s the children who make the show what it is and the whole experience more fun and special for everyone."

While Adrian Lynch, Channel Controller for RTÉ One said; "The Late Late Toy Show has become a national event where all generations gather together to enjoy the show and we’re delighted that the viewership figures reflect this. A huge amount of work goes into a television production like this and I would like to thank Ryan and the whole Late Late Show team for making this the biggest TV event of the year so far".
