Trekkies/Trekkers have been in high anticipation for the new Star Trek series Discovery.
Launching on CBS in May 2017 (it will be available to Irish viewers on Netflix 24 hours after it airs in the US), the series has at last announced its first star.
Michelle Yeoh of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon fame will headline the series, Nicholas Myer (director of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, who is a consulting producer for the new show) has confirmed.
Yeoh also starred in Sunshine and Bond flick Tomorrow Never Dies. She also played a recurring role as Lotus on the second season of the Netflix original series, Marco Polo.
After the announcement that Star Trek: Discovery will have a female lead, it’s quite possible that the Chinese-Malaysian actress will be the new ship’s Lieutenant Commander. However, this has not been confirmed.
Star Trek: Discovery is executive produced by Bryan Fuller with Gretchen Berg, Aaron Harberts and Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman manning the bridge.
