If it wasn't for those dragons, the dire wolves would definitely be the most badass animals in the Seven Kingdoms.
In the very first episode of Game of Thrones, we got to meet six gorgeous little pups when the Starks stumbled across a litter of them in the woods. Under the suggestion of Theon Greyjoy, each of the children were allowed to keep one, and thus getting themselves a lifelong loyal companion.
As we all know though, the fate of the Starks hasn't worked out so well since those happier days, and neither has the fate of their dire wolves, with only two currently alive - Jon's Ghost, who is kicking about Winterfell, and Nymeria (Arya's), who as we saw in a recent episode, is running with her own pack in the Riverlands now.
The first dire wolf to meet a grizzly end was Sansa's Lady, who was killed by Lord Stark in place of Nymeria (who Arya let free) for biting Joffrey, under the order of Robert Baratheon at Cersei Lannister's urging.
We then lost Robb's Grey Wind at that whole Red Wedding massacre. Rickon's Shaggydog was killed by the Umbers when they betrayed the Starks and gave him up to Ramsay Bolton when they swore allegiance to him, while Bran's Summer died protecting him from the Wights at the Cave of the Three-Eyed Raven - not that he got any thanks for it.
So yeah, not much luck, those Stark dire wolves.
Saying all that, we bet you've always wanted to know which dire wolf you really were in a personality quiz, haven't you? Ah you have.
