After calling for more curvy women to be featured on ‘Love Island’ – which is only the biggest series on TV right now – further shout outs are being made on Twitter about the lack of diversity on the reality TV series.
Shots have been fired at contestants describing their type as "mixed race" while viewers are also unhappy about the way contestant Samira is being treated on the show.
can we make it a new rule that anyone who says their type is 'mixed race' gets immediately dumped from the island #LoveIsland

but real talk when it’s fully black people, everyone will run a mile. y’all can’t give samira the time of day or even marcel from last year bc they’re fully black and dark skin respectively but ‘mixed-race’ ppl are ‘your type’?? ðŸ˜' just perpetuating colourism anyhow #loveisland pic.twitter.com/952OCboPsI

Sorry not sorry, but Love Island need to bring in girls of colour/ethic. All this bringing in theses Essex/Welsh white girls is becoming JOKE. The show needs some diversity. Samira is the only girl of colour. includeswe need body diversity to more thicker girls too.#LoveIsland

We live in a real world were some women and men aren’t all white or straight or have a built or skinny body. This show has no diversity or sense of reality to it, i understand that it’s tv a show and this is what they deem to be perfect but that’s not real life. #LoveIsIand

Everyones going off on samira but its been weeks and shes found no one. No one is rooting for her, no one is offering to give her a hair cut only Alex. She is in the same position man, She hasn't moaned or anything just waiting for her man. That might not happen now. #loveisland

Samira should be getting the same energy Alex is. She has been ignored and dismissed more than him #LoveIsland pic.twitter.com/D9jXfQ49mq

Others regard the show as 'ageist' towards the contestant Laura.
The ‘banter’ surrounding Laura’s age is the grim reality that women get more invisible as they age. She’s only 29, if it was a man it wouldn’t be happening. I said what I said. #LoveIsland pic.twitter.com/maN60N7WlI

Can we halt the ageism thing with Laura please? Love a fellow 30 year old islander. #loveisland

MARCEL WAS 31 LAST YEAR AND NO-ONE CALLED HIM A GRANDAD! very ageist towards Laura ngl, she's not even that old and is more beautiful than many girls #loveisland
