Last night's episode of the Late Late Show saw the first televised debate on the 8th Amendment take place, with representatives from both sides of the argument field questions and thoughts from members of the audience as well.
Representing the Yes vote was Dr. Peter Boylan, former Master of the National Maternity Hospital, and Dr. Mary Favier, a general practitioner whilst the No vote was represented by Wendy Grace, a journalist with the Irish Catholic and Caroline Simons, a spokeswoman for the Pro-Life Campaign.
The #LateLateShow's hashtag on Twitter generated thousands of messages throughout the segment. The referendum takes place on May 25th.
Once the #8thref is done with, I look forward to #LoveBoth campaigning for improved maternity services, supports for mothers, economic improvements for parents. Like they've done for YEARS, yes? 🙄 #LateLateShow

"we couldn't afford to go to her funeral" this is the reality of the 8th amendment. having your babies ashes being delivered by a courier, because this country refused to provide, and you can't afford to stay in the UK to mourn your baby #LateLateShow #latelate

This is a debate about healthcare between an obstetrician and a GP on one side, and a presenter of a religious radio station and failed election campaign manager on the other. That should probably say enough in itself #LateLateShow

I did wonder why, if the No side has so many doctors convinced that the Eighth should be saved, they chose Caroline Simons to put their arguments up against Dr Peter Boylan? #LateLateShow #Together4Yes

Everything Mary from Limerick has said .. it’s offensive and it’s a lieS I’m happy she has her baby but saying the pills didn’t arrive I’m sorry she does not have a word of truth in her #LateLateShow

This is a decision for a woman to make with her family and doctor. This woman telling a story about not getting an abortion can continue to not get an abortion after the referendum is passed. People can still chose to not have an abortion. Her point is irrelevant. #LateLateShow

Mary was never going to have an abortion, she had no plan to do so. #LateLateShow https://t.co/zraPNKjq6d

Hope everyone following along the #8thref debate on #LateLateShow will keep in mind that someone you love has been through abortion. If you don't know who it is, it just means they don't trust you to be kind about their crisis. Be kind. #lls #latelate
