Poor Kevin Bacon. He may be a dab hand at those smartphone ads but he certainly didn't have his thinking hat on when he went and retweeted a spoiler about a major plot twist in The Following, before the episode had aired on this side of the Atlantic. Facepalm.

The Footloose star was enjoying an oul browse of the Twitter machine when he decided to retweet the information about the episode, which had just aired in the US. He found himself apologising to his thousands of Twitter followers this morning after he realised what he'd done. "To all the fans abroad and late watchers I'm truly sorry I retweeted a spoiler. I just wasn't thinking. Won't happen again. (My bad).", the post on his official account read.

Bacon stars as Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent Ryan Hardy in the new thriller, which has been beamed to our shores via Sky Atlantic. The drama, which also features James Purefoy (Rome), Natalie Zea (Dirty Sexy Money) and Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), has already been picked up for a second season by Fox. Kevin had better keep his tweets to himself for a while so...
