'The X Factor' was a dramatic affair this weekend for the always cut-throat 6-Chair-Challenge which even saw one contestant steal her chair when walking off stage.

Thankfully it didn't come to that for Galway man Brendan Murray who impressed judge Louis Tomlinson so much he earned himself the coveted Golden X, which is akin to the Golden Buzzer in 'Britain's Got Talent'.

It meant plumber Brendan was in mentor Louis's guaranteed safe seat and is definitely going through to Judge's House. After that vote of confidence, it would seem very likely that 21-year-old Brendan will now go all the way to live shows.

Brendan's rendition of REM's 'Everybody Hurts' earned him a standing ovation from the crowd with Simon Cowell commenting: "You are in a completely different league to everyone else we've seen so far. Do you know what's so charming about you? You don't even know how good you are."

If you recognise Brendan, he was previously a member of boyband Hometown while he also represented Ireland in the 2017 Eurovision.
