We'd heard whisperings a while back that Charles Dance was talking about filming, but now we've had full confirmation that Game of Thrones will return for a fourth series.

HBO took to Twitter to announce the news, tweeting an image of Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, emblazoned with the words 'Game of Thrones renewed for Season 4 with fire and blood'. We're sure it had very little to do with that huge Season 3 premiere (it pulled in 4.4 million viewers Stateside and more than 700,000 tuned in to watch it on Sky Atlantic on Monday night), or the fact that it set the record for the most illegally downloaded programme of all time.

Anyway, sure don't we know the current series is only based on the first half of George RR Martin's 'A Storm Of A Swords'? It would just be rude to cut us off in the middle of the story... I mean it's not like we could just, y'know, read the book or anything, like this fella below...

We warn you, his thoughts aren't for sensitive ears!

Catch brand new Game of Thrones every Monday night from 9pm on Sky Atlantic.
