The much-anticipated final season of Game of Thrones will have only six episodes but given the talent that will be behind them, we shouldn’t be too worried.
Director Miguel Sapochnik, who was behind such episodes as season 5’s “Hardhome” and season 6’s “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter,” will return to direct two episodes, namely 3 and 5, of the upcoming season.
Director of photography Fabian Wagner, who collaborated with Sapochnik during season 6, will also be back to work on the season. Looking at their past work, we’re expecting big action scenes in episodes 3 and 5.
Meanwhile, veteran Thrones director David Nutter, best-known for helming such iconic sequences as the Red Wedding (“The Rains of Castamere”), the burning of Shireen (“The Dance of Dragons”) and Cersei’s walk of shame (“Mother’s Mercy”), will direct episodes 1, 2 and 4, so we’re expecting smaller scale but dramatic and gripping entries to the season here.
As for episode 6, the finale, none other than the series’ showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will direct. The final line-up thus reads:
Episode 1: David Nutter
Episode 2: David Nutter
Episode 3: Miguel Sapochnik
Episode 4: David Nutter
Episode 5: Miguel Sapochnik
Episode 6: David Benioff and Dan Weiss
