As we reported a few weeks ago, the FCC was set to investigate Stephen Colbert after receiving thousands of complaints following a monologue in which the host referred to Donald Trump's mouth as a cock-holster for Vladimir Putin.
The investigation into Colbert was viewed by many as a disturbing turn of events, and possibly impinging on free speech in media. However, in a statement late last night, the FCC confirmed that it's now closing its investigation into Colbert's comments. "Consistent with standard operating procedure, the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau has reviewed the complaints and the material that was the subject of these complaints," the FCC statement said. "The Bureau has concluded that there was nothing actionable under the FCC’s rules."
The FCC's complaints stemmed from the fact that Colbert used the word 'cock' on CBS and most likely that it was reference to Donald Trump. However, the word was bleeped out and Colbert's mouth was blurred - and the whole thing took place after the 9PM watershed, all of which is likely the reason why the investigation was dropped.
Trump previously commented on Colbert's monologue, and has had a combative relationship - to say the least - with late-night talk show hosts, particularly Colbert's predecessor, David Letterman.
