It’s been reported that Declan Donnelly will be hosting the live Britain's Got Talent shows solo next month, having proven himself a successful solo host on Saturday Night Takeaway.
Declan hosted alone on last weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Takeaway after his co-host Ant McPartlin was arrested for drink-driving following a car crash.
Declan, who received high praise from viewers at home for the episode, told the studio audience on the night: "It's been the weirdest, weirdest show. But I wanted to say a huge, huge thank you to lots of people here. Most of all I just wanted to thank you guys."
He will also host this weekend’s episode of the show, which is the last in the series.
According to The Sun, the heads of ITV are confident with Ant hosting Britain’s Got Talent on his own after seeing him last weekend.
A source said: "After last weekend the feeling is very much that Dec should take on BGT alone too – he did a brilliant job. The bosses at ITV loved him and want him back on screens as soon as possible. And Simon Cowell totally agrees that he's the best man for the job rather than bringing in a new face."
They continued: "It was obviously strange for viewers seeing him [Dec] alone at first, but he took everything in his stride like a total pro. That's not to say people didn't miss Ant, but the overwhelming response was that Dec was fantastic solo too."
Ant and Dec filmed the BGT auditions before Ant’s arrest so this would be for the live shows. The pre-recorded segments will air from tonight, when BGT premieres, while the live shows kick off in May.
