Just when you thought the memory of Academy Award nominated crime caper Beverly Hills Cop couldn't be desecrated any further (here's looking at you Crazy Frog), they go and decide to turn the franchise into a TV show.
Brandon T. Jackson (he's done a few films, apparently) is Aaron Foley, son of Axel and star of the spinoff, which comes from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan. And of course, the Beverly Hills Cop himself, Eddie Murphy, will be making an appearance.
"He's in the pilot and he said he wants to come back multiple times during the first order [of episodes]," said Nina Tassler, the president of US network CBS. But of course there are no guarantees that the show will go ahead - it'll have to survive the notorious Pilot Season. Our own Amy Huberman could tell you what that's like! Eddie's not had the best few years in the films or on the telly so we're pretty sure he'll be hoping this one's a success.
Tassler told IGN that they had to make a few minor adjustments to the Beverly Hills Cop franchise before it could be given the green light for television.
"Obviously, the language they used in the movie we can't and wouldn't use on TV," she explained. "For us, it's really about the juxtaposition of a guy who's a fish out of water in Beverly Hills. There's a lot of comedy on the Beverly Hills police force yet to be mined, so we're looking forward to that."
In other words, don't expect any of the things that made Beverly Hills Cop a success. We're going Axel Fox lite this time around.
