There were many an award handed out at last night's Emmys but one man simply stole the show as he decided to pop the question to his girlfriend during his acceptance speech.

Glenn Weiss took home the Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special Emmy, and his emotional speech thanked his recently passed mother before turning his attention to his partner Jan, saying: "Mom always believed in finding the sunshine in things, and she adored my girlfriend Jan. Jan, you are the sunshine in my life, and mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend — because I want to call you my wife."

Queue a massive eruption of cheers from the audience as everyone realised what was happening. Jan joined him on the stage, and well, see for yourself:
