There's no question that anticipation has been set to 11 since Amazon announced that they were adapting JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy for a TV series - but it seems that the show may turn out to be even bigger than anyone expected.

Its budget will certainly exceed anything that has come before, as new reports suggest that the series will be the most expensive TV show ever made.

Further details of the deal that Amazon did with Tolkien's estate have emerged, and it has been reported that they bought the rights for the show for a whopping $250 million last November, which includes a five-season commitment.

The deal also means that Amazon need to be in production within two years, and with all of the expenses adding up - including an expected hefty bill for the likes of visual effects - it's believed that the series could cost more than $1 billion.

The most important question is.... who's going to play Frodo?
