We all know that HBO has a history of pushing the limits of normal television with its frank depictions of sex, violence and language.
It's what has consistently won them awards and made shows such as Game of Thrones and The Sopranos famous as well as infamous. However, with their latest series, Westworld, they've gone to a whole different level. It's been reported that an upcoming shoot for the dark sci-fi series will feature background actors, or extras, in a variety of sexual positions.
What kind, you ask? The consent form, sent by Central Casting, says that actors may be required "to perform genital-to-genital touching, simulate oral sex with hand-to-genital touching, contort to form a table-like shape while being fully nude, pose on all fours while others who are fully nude ride on your back, [and] ride on someone's back while you are both fully nude."
Yeah.
True Detective garnered controversy last year when it cast two well-known porn actresses, Amia Miley and Peta Jensen, for the orgy scene in the sixth episode of the second series. As it stands now, the production team for Westworld is pressing ahead with the scene and have requested that SAG-AFTRA, the acting union that covers extras, have a person on set during the shoot.
Westworld is touted as a "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin" and is expected to be HBO's tentpole series for 2016.
