Season 3 of 'The Crown' dropped on Netflix yesterday.
The new season of 'The Crown' takes place in a whole new era with a brand new cast, depicting events that took place between 1964 and 1977. Olivia Colman replaces Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth, Tobias Menzies plays Prince Phillip instead of Matt Smith, and Helena Bonham plays Princess Margaret after Vanessa Kirby played the role for the first two seasons.
Some of the key events of season three include the unmasking of the Queen’s art advisor Sir Anthony Blunt as a Soviet spy; the Aberfan disaster; the Apollo 11 moon landing; Harold Wilson’s two terms as Prime Minister; and Princess Margaret’s eight year-long affair with baronet and gardening expert Roddy Llewellyn.
Other characters and performances of note include Jason Watkins as Harold Wilson; Ben Daniels as Anthony Armstrong-Jones aka Lord Snowdon; Erin Doherty as Princess Anne; Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles; Emerald Fennell as Camilla Shand; and Charles Dance as Louis Mountbatten.
Fans set aside their entire Sunday to binge on the ten episodes of the new season.

People just couldn't stop watching.
There was high praise for the new cast on Twitter, even if Foy and Smith were missed.
THAT transition from Claire Foy to Olivia Colman... seamless. Could not have been handled any better. As much as I miss Foy, Colman is (predictably) outstanding in the role. #TheCrown #TheCrownSeason3 pic.twitter.com/jokMPpI2Ne

I’ve only watched 15 minutes of #thecrownseason3, and I already know that Tobias Menzies is perfect as Prince Philip. #TheCrown pic.twitter.com/9e7zQ5uGDP

Helena Bonham Carter's performance as Princess Margaret is being deemed iconic.
Watching Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret in #TheCrown and I only have one word to describe her performance... ICONIC. #TheCrownSeason3 pic.twitter.com/6tpUmeP3BF

I was a bit uneasy about having Helena Bonham Carter playing Margaret, because I still remember her as Bellatrix Lestrange quite well and have trouble disassociating her from that role.
However, she's perfect as Margaret.

The Aberfan episode earned particular acclaim.

#TheCrown Just found out they used an aberfan choir that was established after the disaster for the singing in the episode.
When the Welsh rage, we sing.
Legit. I felt this episode hard.— briony (@laureatewitch) November 17, 2019
The scene in the Aberfan episode when the parents were clawing at the dirt was one of the hardest things I’ve watched on TV. #TheCrown

Was anyone else in tears during the Aberfan episode? #TheCrown
