It was announced yesterday that Netflix had made the decision to renew controversial show '13 Reasons Why' for a third season. The news came as a surprise to some considering the second season received mixed reviews (read our review here) as well as a cancellation campaign from moral values group the PTC.

However, Netflix is standing strong in the face of criticism with CEO Reed Hastings saying he fully supports '13 Reasons Why' continuing.

"13 Reasons Why has been enormously popular and successful. It's engaging content. It is controversial. But nobody has to watch it."

Fair enough.

Showrunner Brian Yorkey, who will return for the third season, previously told THR that if a third season goes ahead, it would be "about these characters, and not necessarily a new set of reasons or a new set of tapes. Someone else might do that, but that’s not my job to do that."

Season three of '13 Reasons Why' will premiere in 2019.
