Unless you're really into high-fantasy novels, chances are you're most likely familiar with 'The Witcher' through the excellent video games series, particularly 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt'.
For those that aren't and have no truck with any of that, here's a quick little primer - there are monsters and demons in the world, and Geralt of Rivia (played by Cavill and his trusty grey wig) roams the continent killing them for money. Obviously, we're leaving out huge swathes of detail and world-building, not to mention the thematic stuff - but that's the basic gist of it.
There's been at least ten books translated into English from the original Polish short stories, and of course, the game itself helped to popularise 'The Witcher' everywhere - hence why Netflix are getting involved with a series.
So, how does it look? Well, about as good as any Netflix series based on a fantasy novel can look. You've got the evil witches, some decent-looking special effects, Henry Cavill shirtless for a bit, and lots of trailer-friendly action beats in there.
It could be promising, especially in a post-'Game of Thrones' world where people are now open to high-fantasy stuff on TV.
No release date has been set for 'The Witcher' as of yet.
