It's one of the most expensive shows ever to make its way onto our screens but they still couldn't spring for gender pay equality as it's been revealed that Claire Foy was paid less than her co-star Matt Smith.
Producers behind the show were part of a panel discussion about the show at the INTV Conference in Jerusalem this week and confirmed that Foy, who plays the literal Queen of England, took home less than Matt Smith, who played her husband Prince Philip.
Per Variety:
Asked whether Foy was paid the same as Smith, the producers acknowledged that he did make more due to his 'Doctor Who' fame, but that they would rectify that for the future. "Going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen," said Mackie.
That's all well and good for Olivia Colman, who has been confirmed to be stepping into Queen Elizabeth's shoes for seasons three and four, but doesn't do much for Foy, who earned a Golden Globe award and two Screen Actors Guild awards for her work on the show.
Since finishing the show, Foy has completed the Steven Soderbergh-directed 'Unsane', out on March 23rd, and is set to star as Lisbeth Salander, the world-class computer hacker and heroine of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series, in the upcoming franchise spin-off 'The Girl in the Spider’s Web', and star as Neil Armstrong's wife opposite Ryan Gosling in Damien Chazelle's adaptation of 'First Man' by James R. Hansen.
