It may have something to do with who's in the White House at the minute, but it looks Watergate is back in fashion for film and TV.

The new year will see Steven Spielberg's excellent The Post, which tells the story of the Washington Post's efforts to publish the damaging Pentagon Papers and battle Richard Nixon's efforts to suppress them - and now, according to EW, there's a series in the works at Netflix concerning Watergate.

Details on the proposed series are light, but it's understood that George Clooney will act as an executive producer with Bridge Of Spies' scribe Matt Charman writing the screenplay for the series. Watergate, of course, was covered pretty extensively in 1976's All The President's Men. That film, which starred Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman as Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, was released just two years after Richard Nixon resigned as US President following the scandals which began, in part, with Watergate.

Other films which covered Watergate include Oliver Stone's Nixon, Frost / Nixon with Frank Langella and Michael Sheen, and more recently, Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down The White House, with Liam Neeson starring as the titular Felt, better known to the world as Deep Throat, Woodward's FBI source.

No release date has been confirmed for Clooney's Watergate series.
