The 'Yellowstone' universe is expanding even more, with two leading Hollywood stars set to take us back in time.
Another 'Yellowstone' prequel series is in the works at paramount+, and Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford have both signed up to star.
The western drama on which this new series is based stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the owner of the largest contiguous ranch in the US. Dutton regularly has to take a stance against land developers and other such organisations about keeping control of the ranch in Montana. The popular series currently has four seasons, with a fifth on the way.
This new venture currently has a working title of '1932' and will serve as an origin story which introduces a new generation of the famous Dutton family. The series will be set in the early 20th century during a pivotal time in American history, a time when "pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west, and the Duttons who call it home," said the streaming service.
'1932' is the newest spin-off series inspired by 'Yellowstone'. The very first prequel series, '1883', launched on Paramount+ in December last year and stars Sam Elliott as Shea Brennan, a man who encounters a post-Civil war generation of the Dutton family.
Series creator Taylor Sheridan getting Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren onboard this new 'Yellowstone' prequel is a high achievement. It's believed that the actor will play the grandparents of John Dutton.
This will be Ford's first regular scripted TV series role ever - he briefly appeared as a cameo in a 1993 episode of 'The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles'. The 79-year-old is of course well-known for his action roles in blockbusters as Indiana Jones and Han Solo.
Before becoming a well-known Hollywood star in the likes of 'Calendar Girls' and the 'Fast and the Furious' movies, Mirren starred in the British drama series 'Prime Suspect', later taking on the roles of Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Elizabeth II in the 'Elizabeth I' TV series and the film 'The Queen'.
It will premiere in December on Paramount+. Hopefully RTÉ, who have aired 'Yellowstone', will carry the series on this side of the Atlantic.
