A week ago, Jimmy Kimmel opened up on his late night show about the birth of his son and pleaded with Congress not to make cuts to the National Health Institute.
Kimmel then went on maternity leave for the week while the media and members of Congress criticized his comments on the show and labelled him a "Hollywood elitist."
The talk show host returned to work last night and in his opening monologue gave an update about his son's health and also addressed his critics. Describing his less than privileged upbringing, Kimmel joked that it was "my dream to become an out of touch Hollywood elitist. So I guess that dream came true."
"I would like to apologise for saying that children in America should have healthcare. It was insensitive." Kimmel joked before rubbishing the criticisms that were leveled at him and other late night comedians.
