Although we won't get to see 'The Mandalorian' on this side of the Atlantic (officially, anyway *cough*) until March 2020, the first live-action Star Wars TV appears to be a major hit with a viewers.
Set just five years after 'Return of the Jedi', the series follows a lone Mandalorian warrior who's hired by a shady client - played by wrestling fan / German director Werner Herzog, no less - to recover an asset that... uh, well, we'd be giving a lot away if we went any further.
Suffice to say, Disney are definitely keen on capitalising on the success for 'The Mandalorian' and already have a second season in the works. Jon Favreau posted this image from the set, confirming rumours that a second season is already in production.
Speaking to Variety, Disney chief Alan Horn commented on the success of the series so far, and said that it's entirely possible that a movie could happen from 'The Mandalorian'. As Horn tells it, if 'The Mandalorian' ends up being "so compelling", Disney could "reverse engineer it into a theatrical release, a two-hour film or whatever."
Seeing as how 'The Rise of Skywalker' will be the beginning of a pretty long break with Star Wars at cinemas, a movie based on 'The Mandalorian' might not exactly be the right idea. Not only that, Rian Johnson's trilogy is also in the frame at some point, not to mention the Kenobi miniseries. Maybe TV's the way to go for Star Wars in the future? Who knows.
Disney+ launches in Ireland on March 31st, 2020.
