Expect there to be a banging soundtrack, as The Weeknd is on board as one of the main stars and co-creators.

Judging from the trailer, we're going to keep 'The Idol' on our radar of upcoming TV series to watch out for later this year.

The six-part drama comes from series co-creator Sam Levinson, known also for creating that other HBO smash hit 'Euphoria' starring Zendaya, Hunter Schafer and Sydney Sweeney. This time around, however, he's collaborated with a very well-known music personality.

Abel Tesfaye AKA The Weeknd, the Grammy Award-winning songwriter and performer, will make his live-action acting debut in the series. He also co-created, executive produced and co-wrote the series with Levinson and Reza Fahim. Amy Seimetz ('Atlanta', 'Outer Range') directed all six episodes.

Lily-Rose Depp ('Wolf'), Troye Sivan ('Boy Erased'), Debby Ryan ('Insatiable') and Hari Nef ('And Just Like That...') are also part of the cast.

The series will follow a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult (The Weeknd) who strikes up a complicated and altogether toxic relationship with a rising pop idol (Depp). Billed as "the sleaziest love story in all of Hollywood", it looks like 'Euphoria', but for a *more* adult audience, if that's even possible.

Boasting a soundtrack that sounds like something lifted from The Weeknd's synthwave efforts of late, here's the first teaser for 'The Idol'.

The series has a "coming soon" release date currently attached to it. entertainment.ie has reached out to Sky Ireland, who has confirmed the series will air here in the future.
