If you, like many, have been chomping at the bit for more West Wing ever since the last episode was aired back in 2006, there may be some good news ahead.
Creator and writer Aaron Sorkin has finally addressed the long-standing rumours regarding a reboot of the political drama, and it seems that he's not entirely against it.
NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt has been very vocal over the years about his desire to see more of the show, which ran for 156 episodes across 7 seasons, saying last year "I keep saying to [Sorkin], “Do you want to do The West Wing again, wouldn’t it be great to do it? He says, ‘You know I love that show and some day I’d love to revisit it, but it’s not going to happen right now.’
Now, however, it appears that Sorkin is warming to the idea judging by his appearance on podcast The West Wing Weekly yesterday. Responding to a question from cast member Bradley Whitford asking whether he'd like to bring some of the characters back, he said that he had had a conversation with Greenblatt 'nine months, a year ago' which made him believe that the network wasn't just interested in the ratings. “It was incredible, really, because it didn’t seem to be a commercial pitch that he was making,” he said. “He was just so bummed out by the world.”
He added that Greenblatt had told him: "‘I want you to do The West Wing again in some form. You can do it for 9 episodes, 13 episodes. You do it with a different cast, the same cast.’"
"Incredibly, the show has a legacy," Sorkin added. "The last thing I would want to do is harm that, so if I can come up with an idea that doesn’t feel like A Very Brady Christmas, if I can come up with an idea that works, then yeah."
