If we've learned anything from the pandemic, it's that the rich managed to become that bit richer.
And in a similar vein, the upcoming 'Succession' season three won't be making reference to the pandemic of the past year and a half, purely because it didn't have any effect on the lives of its characters.
Unlike a number of TV shows released these days, such as 'Grey's Anatomy' or the 'Gossip Girl' reboot, the season three return of the dramedy won't feature the characters showing any signs of having lived through COVID.
Creator of the series Jesse Armstrong finished the scripts for 'Succession' season three before the pandemic and decided that they need not be changed following its effect on the world. The reason being that these characters are so rich, it wouldn't have had a major impact on them.
Australian actor Sarah Snook, who plays Shiv Roy in the series, told Vulture: "These are really wealthy people. And unfortunately, none of the world’s really wealthy people were going to be affected by the pandemic."
It was reported earlier this year that billionaires added $1 trillion to their net worths, even though a lot of their workers struggle to get by. So, what Snook says makes a hell of a lot of sense, and the Roy family with Waystar RoyCo shouldn't have been affected all that much by the past year and a half.
However, filming of the series was affected by the pandemic. Cast members Alan Ruck and Brian Cox caught the virus while filming, while Mark Blum, who appeared in two episodes of the series, unfortunately died from COVID complications in March of 2020.
'Succession' season three is expected to arrive this October. Seasons one and two are available to watch via Sky Atlantic or with a NOW Entertainment package.
