Although he was written off the show some nine years ago, Det. Elliot Stabler has never been far from 'Law & Order: SVU' or its fanbase.

Why? Well, for one, Christopher Meloni is a great actor who doesn't get half the credit he deserves and was beloved by the show's devotees. Since he turned up in the likes of 'Man of Steel', 'Happy!', not to mention guest spots in buzzy shows like 'The Handmaid's Tale' as well.

Anyway, news has been confirmed that Meloni is to return to 'Law & Order'-Land with a brand-new, as-yet-unnamed show. In his final episode on 'SVU', Det. Stabler was written off by saying that he had abruptly retired from the police force. However, seeing as Stabler had a background in undercover work, this might have all just been a ruse.

What's more, the series is understood to be about an organised crime task force that Stabler is heading, so this would make sense for that. Not only that, but the series is also expected to film in New York, which means the likelihood of a reunion between Stabler and Benson, played by Mariska Harigtay, is highly probable.

This new series comes as another spin-off series, 'Law & Order: Hate Crimes' is currently in pre-production, however, no air date has been set for that or this new series.

Here's hoping they keep the absolutely banging theme tune for Stabler's show, though.
