One of the great cult TV shows of all time is getting a revival for the modern era.
'Quantum Leap' captured audiences' hearts over the course of its original run in the early 1990s, and now the time-traveling series is getting a fresh retelling for 2022.
The trailer for the revival of the show has dropped, and promises plenty of the history-altering fun fans of the show have come to love and know.
Set roughly thirty years after the events of the original series, the sequel follows physicist Ben Song (Raymond Lee) whose team is out to restart the Quantum Leap project and gain an understanding of both the machine and its creator, the long-lost Dr. Sam Beckett (played on the original series by Scott Bakula).
'Ghostbusters' legend Ernie Hudson is also seen in the trailer, with the star playing a gruff military man who is overseeing the project.
The trailer shows Song in plenty of time-bending hijinks, including a trip to space, acting as a getaway driver for a robbery, backstage at a rock concert, and as a soldier parachuting into a battlefield.
The NBC synopsis reads "Everything changes, however, when Ben makes an unauthorised leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it,”
"At Ben’s side throughout his leaps is Addison (Caitlin Bassett), who appears in the form of a hologram only Ben can see and hear. She’s a decorated Army veteran who brings level-headed precision to her job."
With the original series ending on an unresolved cliffhanger back in the day, fans are hopeful that Scott Bakula makes an appearance in the show, but NBC are keeping tight-lipped for now.
The show returns on September 19th in the United States, but audiences on this side of the pond have no release date as of yet.
No word as of yet on when Irish audiences can check out the new 'Quantum Leap', but we'll keep readers updated when it gets an Irish release date.
