Although HBO put a number of prequels for 'Game of Thrones' to death, only one managed to survive the slaughter - 'House of the Dragon', which follows the early rule of the Targaryens in Westeros.
Based in part on last year's epically-sized 'Fire & Blood', the prequel series follows the reign of King Viserys Targaryen, the first monarch to rule after the death of King Jaehaerys and chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed him. There's only one issue, though. Jaeherys had an illegitimate son, and that power struggle sparks a civil war called the 'Dance of Dragons'.
HBO's logline mainly discusses King Viserys, who is described as "warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather's legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings."
The role in question will be played by Paddy Considine, who's perhaps best known for his roles in the likes of 'Hot Fuzz', 'Peaky Blinders', 'The Outsider', and 'Dead Man's Shoes'. As well as his strong acting abilities, Considine is also an accomplished writer, having written 'Tyrannosaur' with Oscar winner Olivia Colman, and the aforementioned 'Dead Man's Shoes'.
Currently, 'House of the Dragon' is slated for a 2022 release, but given everything at the moment, who knows if that'll even happen. Expect more casting news on the series in the upcoming months.
