It turns out that the 'Bridgerton' season one ending could have looked very different.
It's been a big week for the period drama, not only for it being officially crowned as the most-watched series of all time on the streaming service but also because it has finally been revealed that an alternative ending to 'Bridgerton' season one was filmed.
Galway star Nicola Coughlan revealed the news last weekend while appearing on Netflix's 'TUDUM' event, which dropped a heap of information about all of their upcoming titles in the next year.
Alongside her season one co-star Jonathan Bailey and new season two stars Simone Ashley ('Sex Education') and Charitha Chandran ('Alex Rider'), the four actors chatted about the big reveal at the end of the first season, which *SPOILER* saw Coughlan's character Penelope be unmasked as Lady Whistledown, the town gossip columnist.
When asked by Bailey about a reshoot, Coughlan confirmed that an alternative ending for 'Bridgerton' season one happaned due to what takes place in season two. She said: "Filming that scene was so fun! It was a reshoot in July, so they had filmed a different ending."
When asked what the alternative ending was, Coughlan then said: "I'll say it and then - oh, I can't say it?" Then the screen turned to black.
However, according to People, the full moment included Nicola Coughlan revealing that Cressida Cowper (played by Jessica Madsen) was originally going to be hinted at as being Lady Whistledown.
"How do I say this without being a spoiler?" Coughlan said. "It's very satisfying, what happens with Penelope, in season two."
Earlier this week, Netflix released some of its viewer data, showing that 'Bridgerton' season one was viewed by 82 million users. Rounding out the top five were 'Lupin', 'The Witcher', 'Sex/Life' and 'Stranger Things' season three.
'Bridgerton' season two will premiere on Netflix in 2022.
