When it comes to the Mystery Inc. gang, your favourite character says a lot about you.
Scooby and Shaggy, for example, seem to suggest that you basically enjoy herbal relief and good food, while Daphne was something far more glamourous. Fred Jones, well, he's just your all-American meathead. Velma, though? Velma knew her stuff and wasn't interested in discussing it.
She was right, basically all the time, and was the only one out of the entire gang that actually seemed to be a natural detective. Honestly, her back must have been sore from carrying the rest of them for that long.
Anyway, the reason we bring this is up Mindy Kaling is set to voice Velma Dinkley in a new animated spin-off of the character on HBO Max. 'Velma' is described as "an original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America's most beloved mystery solvers."
As of now, there's no airdate yet for the series and it's unclear when 'Velma' will be available on this side of the Atlantic. All told, Velma Dinkley's been voiced or played in live-action by a total of 18 women, including Linda Cardellini in the live-action movie, and Gina Rodriguez in the recent animated movie, 'Scoob!'.
Here's one of those adverts from Cartoon Network in the '90s where Velma and Johnny Bravo had a bit of a thing going on.
