Fans of Netflix's superhero series such as 'Daredevil' and 'The Punisher' might have quite a long wait ahead of them.
As you'll no doubt remember, Netflix broke the tragic news late last year that their superhero series' 'Iron Fist' and 'Luke Cage' were being cancelled, and wouldn't be returning for their respective third seasons. Many were scared the same fate might come for 'Daredevil', which had just released a stellar third season - and it did.
Now, according to IndieWire, any dreams we have of the heroes on the street heading over to Disney's new streaming service set to launch later this year, Disney+, may also be scuppered. Due to the deal that was forged between Netflix and Disney, Marvel will have to wait two years until any plans for a revival can be put into action.
So, as 'Daredevil' was officially cancelled in November 2018, Disney cannot begin plans for a potential fourth season until November 2020. That means that even if Disney does actually begin plans straight off the bat next November, we likely won't see any new 'Daredevil' seasons until at least 2021 at the earliest, taking into account script writing, shooting, editing... Plus, getting all of the actors back (if they are available, and willing).
The same deal goes for all of the remaining Marvel properties, including 'The Punisher' and 'Jessica Jones'. Both were officially cancelled in February of this year, so plans can't begin to be put in place until February 2021. Speaking of Jones - we're still expecting her third season to hit Netflix at some point later this year. At least that's one superhero series we can still look forward to.
In the meantime, Netflix's biggest streaming rival will be arriving this November in the form of Disney+. Already extremely busy producing their own superhero capers based on some of the Avengers, it plans to release series such as 'WandaVision', 'Falcon & Winter Soldier', and a new series focussing on Tom Hiddleston's master trickster Loki.
