The phenominally acted and brilliantly written 'Mare of Easttown' was a major HBO hit this year, and talk on season two is still being discussed.
That's according to the star of the series, Kate Winslet. Ever since the show finished up last May, there have been conversations regarding a return to 'Mare of Easttown' and the character of detective sergeant Mare Sheehan and her dysfunctional family and friends.
While there have been conflicting rumours of a second season, the latest development points to there definitely being an avenue that HBO might pursue.
According to Deadline, Kate Winslet told the publication that 'Mare of Easttown' season two was an "ongoing conversation" at the moment.
She continued: "I would love to play her again, I absolutely believe there’s more chapters to her story. However, just because the story has touched people that doesn’t necessarily mean creatively we can do it again. But it doesn’t mean closing doors; we’re opening doors, exploring what’s behind the doors."
Earlier this week, the crime series was nominated for 16 Emmy Awards for the upcoming ceremony this September. The accolades include Best Limited Series, Best Leading Actress in a Limited Series for Kate Winslet, and Supporting Actor and Actress nods for Evan Peters, Jean Smart, and Julianne Nicholson.
The Oscar winner continued to speak about why the series resonated with TV viewers so much. She added: "At the end of the day, when the chips are down, it’s community and family and the sense of belonging, no matter where you come from, that means everything — especially at a time when we’ve experienced this seismic event in the pandemic.
"I think [the miniseries] has that sense of looking out for one another against all odds; it’s something that everyone can relate to. Brad Ingelsby wrote this middle-aged heroine; not many writers have written this before, and I felt so honoured and excited when he asked me."
