Jake Gyllenhaal is the latest Hollywood actor to take a jump over to the dark side of leading a new television series for HBO.
Following in the footsteps of the likes of Hugh Jackman, Meryl Streep, and Mark Ruffalo, a new Jake Gyllenhaal HBO series is in the works over at the TV studios.
The 'Donnie Darko' and 'Nightcrawler' actor is teaming up once again with director Denis Villeneuve for this new limited series entitled 'The Son'. The pair previously worked together on two projects in the past - the Gyllenhaal/Hugh Jackman thriller 'Prisoners' and the mysterious 'Enemy'.
According to Deadline, the pair have been trying to piece together the perfect project that they could both work together on once again, and have now found the perfect adaptation.
'The Son' is based on the bestselling novel by Norwegian author Jo Nesbø. It is a stand-alone crime novel set in Norway's capital of Oslo. Dealing with corruption and power control, the plot sees one very unusual young man named Sonny Lofthus (Gyllenhaal) about to propel himself into a mission of brutal revenge. The character is an escaped convict and opioid addict who is having problems with his memory and is on the run from police.
Originally, the idea was for 'The Son' to be a feature film in cinemas, but now HBO has taken over the reins and have granted it a limited series run.
Gyllenhaal has a lot on his plate according to his IMDb page at the moment, with three movies currently in pre-production already. 'Rio' and 'The Guilty' are both billed as thriller movies, while 'The Division' will see him pair up with Jessica Chastain to stop a bioterrorist attack on New York City on Black Friday.
