Series 13 of the celebrity reality show will have extra safety measures in place for its crew and contestants to abide by.

The 'Dancing on Ice' return this weekend will see an extra layer of safety precautions in place to ensure that everyone involved in the series is protected.

ITV has released a statement confirming the extra measures, following news that some members of the production crew are currently quarantining. According to reports from The Sun, five members of the crew tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

While not confirming whether this is, in fact, true, ITV's statement reads: "The welfare of everyone who works on 'Dancing on Ice' is our first priority.

"We have had a robust set of measures in place ever since work on the series commenced to ensure the wellbeing of everyone connected with the production."

Should production be halted on the set of the 'Dancing on Ice' return, it would indeed create a major headache for the company. Unlike other celebrity reality series where contestants are dropped into the thick of it without much practice, a la 'I'm a Celeb' and 'Strictly Come Dancing', the skating series is much different.

The contestants, who this year are made up of Denise van Outen, Myleene Klass, Jason Donovan, Rufus Hound, and of course Rebekah Vardy, have been practising their ice-skating abilities with their skating partners for months ahead of this weekend's series 13 premiere. Should it all be culled, then all of theirs and the crew's hard work will have been for nothing.

The extra safety measures which ITV have put in place include perspex screens between each of the judges, no studio audience, and each of the pairs remaining socially-distanced from each-other.

Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield will be kicking off the new series this Sunday evening at 6pm on Virgin Media One.
