HBO Max have been keeping themselves very busy.
As previously reported, they're currently working on a 'Friends' TV reunion as well as Zack Snyder's extended cut of 'Justice League'. Now they're looking to develop on another Warner Bros. property - Harry Potter.
The franchise is based on a series of books published between 1997 and 2007.
They follow the titular character as he discovers he is a wizard and learns to use his magic at a school named Hogwarts. He eventually saves the world from the evil Lord Voldemort.
The eight film adaptations that sprung from the books star Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. They grossed $7.7 billion at the box office.
A live-action TV series based on the fantasy franchise is in early development.
THR report that execs have met with various potential writers to explore ideas of how to adapt the property to television.
Mind you, no directors, writers or cast have signed on just yet.
There's also no word on what stage of the 'Harry Potter' storyline the show would focus on.
The emphasis is that the series is in very, very early stages.
The author of the series, J.K. Rowling, has come under criticism of late for comments that have been viewed as transphobic.
There are also complicated rights issues around the Harry Potter franchise which may stall the series.
NBCUniversal penned a 7-year rights deal with Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution in 2016 that includes broadcast, cable and streaming rights to the Wizarding World franchise.
The deal only wraps in 2025. It also means that after briefly being available on HBO Max, the film series will return to NBC's recently launched streamer Peacock later this year.
Also available on HBO Max, which is yet to launch in Ireland, are series like 'Game of Thrones' and 'Sex and the City'.
All of Warner Bros' 2021 movie releases will be available to stream on the platform on the same day that they hit cinemas in the US.
