With season four of Netflix's 'The Crown' sweeping last night's 73rd Annual Emmy Awards, all eyes were on the cast that walked away with the top prizes on the night.
Season four of 'The Crown' walked away with 11 wins at last night's Emmy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher.
Her co-stars Olivia Colman, Josh O'Connor and even Claire Foy all scooped awards, the latter for Best Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her brief reprisal appearance as a younger Queen Elizabeth II.
With the Emmy Awards being a mostly non-virtual event this year, it seemed it was only the journalists who were left to ask the award winners questions in a virtual capacity. One journalist who was probably happy to not have their face appear on screen is the one who asked, we kid you not, whether Gillian Anderson had talked to Margaret Thatcher about her role as the UK Prime Minister.
Since the real Thatcher died in 2013 at the age of 87, three years before 'The Crown' season one even launched on Netflix, we're guessing the answer is probably a hard "no"?
Gillian did somehow manage to keep it together after this curveball question, however, and replied with a few "ums" and "ahs": "I have not spoken to Margaret..."

This is Gillian Anderson's second Emmy win. 24 years ago, she won a Leading Actress award for her longtime role as Dana Scully in 'The X-Files'.
During the summer, we had our first look at the cast of 'The Crown' season five, which will see Imelda Staunton play Queen Elizabeth II in her later years. Jonathan Pryce will play Prince Philip, with Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana and Dominic West as Prince Charles. The series will continue on Netflix in 2022.
