2019's Rugby World Cup will be held in the host nation of Japan, for the first time ever. The six week tournament will kick-off on September 20th, and run right up until the final on November 2nd. And here's hoping we'll all be screaming at the TV on that Saturday night final.
News today about the Rugby World Cup comes in the form of which broadcasters will be showing the games in Ireland. As the primary rights holder, Eir sport will broadcast all 48 games live, including all of Ireland’s matches, and a daily highlights show. RTÉ has secured TV rights to broadcast 14 live matches. This includes all of Ireland's games, all knockout stages, and the final, as well as 16 nights of highlights.
For Irish fans, the opening match against Scotland will take place on Sunday 22nd September. We've only ever placed as far as the quarter-finals, so no pressure Ireland - the country is relying on you to bring that cup back for the first time. And coming off last weekend's performance against The All Blacks, the bar has been set high for fans. The other teams joining Ireland in Pool A are Russia, Samoa, and host nation Japan.
