Taking the series in a bold new way we never thought it would be taken.
'Bake Off' returned last night to monumental praise, at a time when we need our fix of reality TV more than ever. 12 new bakers rose to the challenge last night, having filmed during the summer months at a new location, and pulled out all the stops in order to create a memorable showstopper as the final challenge of the series premiere.
But no, it wasn't Freddie Mercury or David Attenborough's cake bodices that overtook proceedings on the episode - it was newcomer Matt Lucas. Noel Fielding's new co-host kicked things off in breathtaking fashion by taking aim at the UK Prime Minister's address to the nation last night.
Airing right after Boris Johnson's speech to the UK, Lucas dressed up as a flustered and confusing BoJo, with Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, and Noel Fielding also joining in to make it even more of a sh*tshow - not too far off how the real-world happenings have been of late.
In case you missed it, here was the opening of the new series.

And here's the best reaction that the 'Bake Off' return received on Twitter.
I can't believe this is only the series premiere, because I would go as far as saying that this is one of the single best episodes of Bake Off ever #GBBO pic.twitter.com/Hcek6ewL0r

I’ve been really looking forward to seeing @RealMattLucas on Bake Off, but opening with this long Boris Johnson impression is a bold move even for him.
