France v Germany (Kick-off 5.00pm) RTE 2
Things are starting to get very real over in Brazil as the first of the quarter-final matches begins tonight, with two European neighbours taking each other on for the first time at a World Cup since 1986. The Germans were victorious on that occasion but it's anyone's guess as to who will emerge the victor today. Both teams struggled in their last-16 fixtures, only showing their worth in the second half, so we may be in for yet another extra time/shootout scenario.
Brazil v Colombia (Kick-off 9.00pm) RTE 2, BBC1, UTV
The Europeans may have kicked off the quarter finals today but it's the South Americans who will have everyone glued to the box tonight. Hosts Brazil will be hoping things go a bit easier for them than their final-16 play off against Chile where they got through by the skin of their teeth at the penalty shootout. However, the Columbians have proved to be a highly rated team in this World Cup with the likes of James Rodriguez emerging as one of the stars of this tournament.
