Enjoyed the first episode of this Hilary Mantel adaptation last week, which really is made by the captivating performance of its lead Mark Rylance, who plays Thomas Cromwell. Prior to this, Rylance has mainly been a renowned stage actor, but there's no doubt his skills have transferred to the small screen. While Damian Lewis was also pretty good as King Henry VIII, for all that we saw of him. In tonight's episode, Anne Boleyn summons Cromwell, anxious to know whether she has an ally in him, and he witnesses her venting her frustrations on her ladies-in-waiting.
