This period drama based on the best selling novels of Hilary Mantel has made our Wednesday nights all the more intriguing these last few weeks, not least for seeing Damian Lewis in that get-up. While he plays Henry the VIII, the star of the show is of course Thomas Cromwell, played by Mark Rylance. Tonight sees him managing to get a bill through Parliament acknowledging Henry as head of the Church of England, which is the first step in enabling the king to grant his own divorce from Katherine of Aragon. Meanwhile, his future wife Anne Boleyn has matters of her own to deal with as Harry Percy's wife claims her own marriage is unlawful as Harry had already made a contract with Anne. Cromwell is soon brought into the matter and no doubt will relish the task given Percy's treatment of Wolsey last week.
