This new three-part documentary series explores the history and geography of America's deserts, canyons and wilderness, looking at the lives of the people and animals that have found ways to thrive and prosper in these brutally inhospitable conditions. The first programme examines the agricultural traditions of the Hopi Native American tribe in northeastern Arizona, as well as exploring the strategies used by a variety of wildlife, including mustangs, coyotes and desert tortoises, to survive in these demanding environments.
