Historically inaccurate in the extreme (Homer is spinning in his grave), but rather pleasing to the eye (here's looking at you, Brad Pitt's honed hoop), this is Wolfgang Petersen's interpretation of The Iliad. An illicit romance between a prince of Troy and the wife of the king of Sparta sparks off a bitter and bloody war against a mighty alliance of Greek kings. As the battle lines are drawn, the leader of the Trojan army is drawn into an intense personal conflict with the Greeks' mightiest warrior. Petersen's adventure also stars Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom (in his only believable role to date), Brian Cox, Sean Bean and Peter O'Toole. Be warned, it includes RTE News On Two and World Forecast at 11.25. Indeed it is a rather long film.
