In what was his first Hollywood leading role, Colin Farrell starred as Roland Bozz, an unruly and rebellious draftee who is opposed to the Vietnam War. Boazz is sent to a training centre in Louisana to prepare for deployment. It is there that he befriends another recruit Jim Paxton (Matthew Davis) who volunteered for the War. Paxton has a idealistic viewpoint about serving his country but that is challenged when he meets and gets to know Bozz, who has a unique gift of identifying loopholes for getting soldiers out of the army. The line being "if you don't wanna go to 'Nam, you either pray to Jesus, or go see Roland Bozz." The film is a strong drama with Farrell excelling enough to win a role in Minority Report and become the next big thing in Hollywood.
