We all have our favourites – for some it’s Matilda, for others it’s The BFG. Still others love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits, Fantastic Mr Fox, or George’s Marvellous Medicine. Whatever the book, millions of readers around the globe consider the works of Roald Dahl to be synonymous with their childhood. The endurance of his works over the years is a testament to his genius.

At the same time, the story of the author’s own life is rarely told. Thus The Marvellous World of Roald Dahl relates his adventures of being a fighter pilot, an inventor, a spy, and a father at various points of his life.

The documentary will be a personal account with interviews from Dahl’s daughter Lucy, his late wife Liccy, and biographer Donald Sturrock. Much of the story is told through Dahl’s own words as his letters and other writings (voiced by Robert Lindsay) are key resources for the programme.
